Assumes responsibility for the development and implementation of effective Lending planning.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership:
Develop and execute lending strategies that support the credit union’s overall business objectives and growth targets.
Lead innovation in lending products, services, and technology to enhance member engagement and satisfaction.
Monitor industry trends, market conditions, and regulatory changes to inform lending policy and direction.
Operational Oversight:
Coordinate and oversee day-to-day operations across all business and consumer lending activities and departments falling under this role’s area of responsibility.
Execute lending approvals/denials within appropriate guidelines.
Oversee the Credit Union’s indirect lending programs, including third-party referral programs.
Ensure efficiency, scalability, and compliance in all consumer lending processes.
Collaborate with marketing, retail, and digital teams to deliver seamless loan origination and servicing experiences.
Coordinate with and provide assistance to the Remote Delivery Channel Manager in managing the credit of the in-house credit card portfolio.
Assist in overseeing the Credit Union’s participation loan policy.
Resolve member complaints, in both written and oral format.
Assist in the preparation of the Credit Union Operating budget.
Notify BSA Manager when suspicious activity is identified or has been reported.
Proactively seek out training to remain abreast of new regulations, products and services.
Risk & Compliance Management:
Oversee risk management activities performed in departments to protect the Credit Union from losses.
Develop business and consumer lending policies for the Credit Union and oversee the procedures to enforce these policies.
Conduct periodic review of existing policies to ensure their effectiveness.
Maintain high-quality underwriting standards and risk mitigation practices.
Ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state lending regulations, policies, and procedures.
Partner with internal audit, risk, and compliance teams to ensure effective controls.
Performance & Reporting:
Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to lending, loan portfolio performance, and budget targets.
Report regularly to executive leadership and the board on lending trends, forecasts, and results.
Identify opportunities to optimize portfolio yield while managing credit risk.
Commercial Loan Portfolio Management
Oversee origination, underwriting, approval, and servicing of commercial loans including real estate, term loans, lines of credit, SBA and USDA loans.
Maintain the overall health of the business lending portfolio through proactive risk management and credit quality monitoring.
Ensure adherence to credit union policies, regulatory requirements, and sound lending practices.
Underwriting Oversight
Lead a team of underwriters across consumer and indirect lending.
Assess and recommend individual loan officer authority parameters and limits.
Develop and implement programs to analyze, develop, and enhance underwriting skills of loan officers.
Work with the training and sales departments to ensure that loan officers are properly trained in the cross selling of lending products and services.
Establish and maintain credit policies, underwriting standards, and risk thresholds.
Monitor credit quality and ensure consistent, sound decision-making.
Oversee the collections and asset recovery department to ensure effective delinquency and loss mitigation strategies.
Implement proactive approaches to minimize charge-offs and maximize recoveries while maintaining a member-focused approach.
Maintain compliance with all relevant federal and state regulations related to debt collection and asset recovery.
External Lending Referral Partners
Manage relationships with indirect auto dealers, mortgage brokers, fintech platforms, and other third-party referral partners.
Evaluate performance, risk, and value of each partnership and adjust strategy as needed.
Ensure partners align with the credit union’s brand, values, and lending standards.
Team Development & Culture:
Lead, mentor, and inspire a high-performing team of lending professionals and managers across multiple disciplines.
Foster a culture of accountability, member-centric service, and continuous improvement.
Drive collaboration across departments to deliver seamless lending experiences.
Perform other duties, as assigned by management
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Minimum 10 years of experience in lending at a financial institution, including 5+ years in a senior or executive leadership role.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:
Experience overseeing lending operations, underwriting, collections and asset recovery is required
Financial institution branch network operations experience preferred
Proven track record of managing third-party lending and indirect channels
Deep understanding of government lending regulations, collection laws, insurance laws, credit analysis, delinquency management, and portfolio performance.
Excellent leadership, communication and analytical skills.
Thorough knowledge of Credit Union loan products and applicable policies and standards.
BSA Specific Requirements: Knowledge of the Member Identification Program, Financial Exploitation Prevention Act, Identity Theft Red Flags, OFAC requirements and Privacy Policy.
