ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

  • Assumes responsibility for the effective and professional performance of collections functions.
  • Maintain member contact and handle telephone calls on delinquent and charged-off loan accounts
  • Maintain delinquent notices and contact delinquent members to work out delinquent problems.
  • Maintain follow-up on delinquent accounts.
  • Performs skip tracing activities.
  • Collect information through the use of open-ended questions from members to help determine the member’s ability to pay under current or modified loan terms.
  • Initiate and maintain dialogue with delinquent loan members to attempt to reach a resolution for payment with the member.  Discusses and suggests payment options that will best enable the member to fulfill their payment obligations.
  • Compile data for reporting to the Manager.
  • Compile data for monthly reports for the Board of Directors and committees on matters of collections.
  • Obtain credit bureau report data for delinquent loan accounts.
  • Interact with outside agencies (Collection, Attorney, Repossession etc.).
  • Recommend any actions that will aid the Credit Union in the collection of all delinquent loans including loan workouts; or legal, repossession and/or foreclosure action when other means of collection have failed.
  • Recommend action to protect and/or secure collateral (i.e. follow up on notification of abandoned vehicles, real estate or other collateral).
  • Follow policies set forth in the Credit Union’s bylaws, as amended, and in government regulations.
  • Demonstrate the ability to represent the Credit Union and MPS Department in carrying out educational sessions for related work groups and employees, i.e. loan and member services employees.
  • Demonstrate the ability to properly represent Genisys Credit Union in a court of law concerning small claims matters, delinquent loan issues, and any other special court assignment as deemed necessary.
  • Make recommendations and prepare extension agreements for review by the Manager.
 
Assumes responsibility for the efficient administration of collections activities.
 
  • Keeps accurate and up-to-date activity reports on late, potentially late, and delinquent loans.
  • Documents all collection actions taken, including telephone conversations, alternative financial arrangements, and correspondence in the Credit Union’s collection and data processing systems.
  • Researches loan accounts that appear on late and potentially late records to ensure that Credit Union errors are detected promptly.  Provides members the opportunity to fully explain their loan status.
 
Assumes responsibility for ensuring that professional business relations are established and maintained with Credit Union members and external contacts.
  • Maintains the Credit Union's professional reputation throughout collections operations and in all contacts with members.
  • Strives to develop and maintain relationship of mutual cooperation with members.
  • Maintains confidentiality.
 
Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective communication and coordination with Credit Union personnel.
  • Assists area personnel as needed.
  • Keeps management informed of activities, progress toward established objectives, and of any significant problems.
  • Attends and participates in meetings as required.
 
Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned.
  • Stays informed of changes in collections policies, procedures, and related legal requirements.
  • Actively and professionally cross-sells Credit Union services.
  • Ensures that work area is clean, secure, and well maintained.
  • Maintains personal finances appropriately according to Genisys Policy.
 
QUALIFICATIONS
 
Education/Certification:   
  • High school graduate or equivalent and some college business courses. 
  • Ability to become and remain 100% bonded.
Required Knowledge:   
  • Knowledge of collection procedures, loan workout alternatives, and related laws and regulations.
  • Understanding of Credit Union loan products, policies and procedures.  Familiar with default and enforcement clauses.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as credit reports, loan documents, court correspondences, tag cards, etc.
  • Familiar with deposit programs, account ownership, and casualty insurance.
  • Basic understanding of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code.
  • Understanding of Small Claims Court system.
  • BSA Specific Requirements: Report any identified suspicious activity to your Manager or the BSA Manager. Complete assigned training. 
 
Experience Required:   
  • Minimum 3 years of related collection experience and/or training.

  • Ability to work well in stressful situations.
  • Ability to operate related computer applications and other business equipment including calculator, typewriter, copy machine, printer, credit bureau terminal, telephone, fax.
